A town split by the cut
The first thing to know about Monee is the railroad. The Canadian National line, built as the Illinois Central, runs through the village in an open cut roughly 25 feet deep and 83 feet wide, dug in 1922 and 1923. It’s a single track now, and the depot closed long ago, so there’s no station to use as a landmark. What the cut does is divide the town: a car on one side and a car on the other can be close on the map and still need different approaches.
So when you send the address, add which side of the tracks the car is on. Governors Highway (Illinois 50) dips north and crosses the railroad inside the village, so the crossing makes a handy reference point when you describe where the car sits.
The roads the truck uses
Monee sits on I-57, and exit 335 (signed for Manhattan and Monee) feeds Monee-Manhattan Road. Governors Highway is the main north-south road through town; it only becomes Cicero Avenue once it enters Cook County at Richton Park. Village code treats Governors Highway, Monee-Manhattan Road and Steger-Monee Road as truck routes and puts an 8,000-pound gross limit on most other village streets (§ 6-3-9). Give us the nearest cross street and the driver plans the approach from the main roads.
Where a dead car is allowed to sit
Monee is strict about the edges of a lot. No vehicle may park on any parkway or driveway apron in the village (§ 6-3-7(D)). Narrow cul-de-sacs carry their own limits: under 24 feet wide, no parking on either side. In the Estate Residential districts, street parking isn’t allowed at any time without a Monee vehicle sticker or a police guest permit, and offending cars can be towed.
Snow tightens it further. Within 12 hours after a snowfall of 2 inches or more, no car may park on a public street unless that street has been plowed, and violators are towed at the owner’s expense (§ 6-3-11).
When the village calls it junk
Monee’s nuisance code doesn’t wait for a car to rust away. Letting junk collect or remain anywhere in the village is a nuisance under § 5-3-29(B)(6), and the list of junk names non-functioning and unlicensed motor vehicles outright. A car with dead plates and a dead engine in the side yard fits that description already.
The fix is quick. Send the details on our offer form, take a number that doesn’t expire, and the tow costs you nothing. Our page on free pickup lists exactly what that covers.
Mobile homes and long driveways
About 93 percent of Monee’s homes are owner-occupied, and close to four in five are detached houses. About one in ten is a mobile home, a bigger share than in most towns on our map. For a pickup in a mobile home community, clear it with the park office first and tell us the lot number.
Monee’s neighbours on our map
Monee Township takes in all of Monee, almost all of University Park just to the north, and a small corner of Park Forest. Crete lies to the northeast and Beecher to the southeast, with Manhattan to the west. Follow Governors Highway north through Richton Park and it becomes Cicero Avenue on the way into Matteson. The Will County page lists every county town we serve, and the full map covers the rest.
The paperwork
An Illinois title signed over at pickup is all a normal sale needs. If it’s gone, list what you still have, such as registration, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois rules decide which of those can carry a scrap sale, and we’ll tell you on the call whether yours do.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Can the dead car wait on the parkway until the truck comes?
Not legally. Monee bans parking on any parkway or driveway apron in the village, so a car that has been pushed onto the grass strip or left hanging over the apron can be ticketed. Keep it in the driveway proper or the garage, and send us the details so we can book the pickup.
We live in an Estate Residential subdivision. Can the car sit on the street?
No. In Monee's Estate Residential districts, street parking isn't allowed at any time unless the car shows a Monee vehicle sticker or a police guest permit, and illegally parked cars may be towed. A car that has stopped running rarely has a reason to keep a sticker, so removal is usually the cleaner answer.
The car has no plates. Does that matter to you?
Not for the sale, though it matters to the village: Monee's nuisance rule names non-functioning and unlicensed cars among the junk that may not be left around. We buy cars with or without plates. Tell us which Illinois papers you have and we confirm the paperwork on the call.
