Farm country with the county in charge
Wilton isn’t a village. It’s a civil township in southern Will County, formed in 1850, covering a little over 36 square miles of farmland. Inside it are three small unincorporated communities: Wilton Center, the census-designated place with 122 people at the 2020 count; Wilton, a hamlet of about 20 people northeast of it that grew up around a depot on a rail line long since removed; and Wallingford. Pierce was once a fourth.
With no village government, the rules for a dead car come from the Will County Code. Section 93.004(R) makes it a public nuisance to keep an inoperable or abandoned car outside an enclosed building for more than 7 days after the county sends written notice by certified mail, or after a non-traffic complaint ticket. Section 93.003 defines inoperable the usual way: parts removed or changed for 7 days or more so the car can’t run on its own power.
US 52, Cedar Road and the section roads
US 52 runs through Wilton Center, and Cedar Road, Peotone-Wilmington Road, Elevator Road and Tulley Road carry most of the rest, with Arsenal Road and Quigley Road as well. From I-57, exit 327 for Wilmington and Peotone leads onto County Highway 25. Wilton Center uses the Manhattan ZIP code, 60442, so give us the road name and the nearest crossroad along with the address.
Farmyards, sheds and forest preserve
Nearly every home in the township is an owner-occupied detached house, so the cars we collect here usually sit in a farmyard, a machine shed or at the end of a long drive. About half of Wilton Center is bordered by Will County forest preserve, including the 430-acre Laughton Preserve along the Forked Creek system. Tell us where on the property the car is and what the way in looks like, and the driver plans for it.
The tow is free wherever the car sits, and you’re paid when it’s loaded. If you have more than one old vehicle on the place, one visit can take several. Start with the offer form or read what free pickup covers.
County roads in winter
On designated snow routes, set by the township highway commissioner and the county highway superintendent, nothing may park during snow removal once 2 inches have accumulated, and violators are towed and impounded (§ 71.02). Abandoning a car on any county roadway is unlawful outright (§ 70.25), and the Sheriff can remove a car abandoned in public view on someone else’s property after 7 days (§ 70.26). A car that quit on the shoulder of Cedar Road needs moving quickly.
The nearest towns on our map
North up US 52 is Manhattan, the nearest town with its own pickup page, and New Lenox lies beyond it. Frankfort is to the northeast, and Monee sits east on the way to I-57. The Will County page lists every county town we serve, and the pickup map shows the edges of our area.
Paperwork for an Illinois sale
A signed Illinois title is all a straightforward sale needs. If it’s been lost in a farmhouse drawer for years, list what you can find instead, whether that’s an old registration, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois rules decide which of those can carry a scrap sale, and we’ll tell you on the call whether yours will.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

There's no village here. Who can make me move a dead car?
Will County can. In unincorporated areas, county code makes it a public nuisance to keep an inoperable or abandoned car outside an enclosed building for more than 7 days after written notice by certified mail, or after a non-traffic complaint ticket (§ 93.004(R)). If a notice has arrived, send us the details that day.
Is Wilton Center part of Manhattan?
No. Wilton Center shares Manhattan's 60442 ZIP code, but it's an unincorporated community in Wilton Township, so Will County rules apply rather than Manhattan's village code. For the sale itself nothing changes: same free tow, same payment at pickup.
The car is behind a shed, well off the road. Can you still take it?
Tell us exactly where it sits and what the way in looks like when you ask for an offer, so the driver can plan the approach before arriving. Cars in sheds, barns and yards are normal out here, and the tow is free whatever the distance from the lane.
