Hazel Crest Proper, Pottawatomie Hills or Village West?
Ask where someone lives in Hazel Crest and you often hear a subdivision before a street. Hazel Crest Proper is the oldest part of the village. Around it are Chateaux and Versailles, Pottawatomie Hills and Twin Creeks, the Highlands, Dynasty Lakes and Village West, and Pacesetter, Stonebridge and Carriage Hills, most of them built between the 1950s and the 1980s. Give us the subdivision with the address. It helps the driver, and the village writes its snow rules by subdivision and street.
The middle of the village is 175th Street at Kedzie Avenue, and Kedzie, 175th and 183rd are all divided four-lane roads. The other main routes are 167th Street, Pulaski Road, Wood Street, Dixie Highway and Governors Highway. I-80 joins the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) inside the village, and part of the Canadian National intermodal yard sits on the east side.
Condo lots: English Valley to Water’s Edge
Three in four occupied homes are owned by the people living in them, and 77.0% are detached houses. Still, 14.0% of homes are in buildings with two or more units, and the village has several condo complexes, including English Valley, Stonebridge, Gingko, Ironwood and Water’s Edge. A car in a shared lot loads just as easily as one in a driveway. Clear the visit with the association or management, tell us the building and the space, and keys are optional.
Snow rules east and west of I-294
Hazel Crest layers its snow rules:
- Most streets. The village’s resident page bans street parking once 2 inches of snow have fallen, until removal is done on all streets. Hazel Crest Proper is the exception.
- Listed streets and subdivisions, Sec. 19-109(a). On parts of 168th to 171st Streets, Dixie Highway, Park, Western and Wood between 167th and 171st, Baron Drive, and in subdivisions such as Apple Tree, Highlands, Stonebridge and Village West, parking is cut to 3 minutes for passengers or 30 minutes for property while snow falls, and past 2 inches, until removal is done.
- East of I-294, Sec. 19-109(b). Past 2 inches, an odd and even address system runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until removal is done. Designated snow routes are excepted.
A car that won’t start can’t follow any of these, which is a fair reason to book the pickup before the forecast turns.
Ord. 02-2026 reaches the driveway
Hazel Crest’s rules reach past the curb. The village’s resident page says inoperable vehicles may not be left on village streets or in driveways, and that owners face warnings, citations, towing and in some cases arrest. Since March 10, 2026, Ord. 02-2026 has put it in the code too: § 20-132(3) names abandoned vehicles on public or private property, and inoperable, dismantled or unlicensed vehicles stored outdoors, as public nuisances. The older § 20-107(10) still treats an inoperable car kept outside a closed building as a nuisance where it harms the neighbours’ use of their property.
Titles, missing papers and the Hazel Crest offer
A signed Illinois title makes it simple. If yours has gone missing, list the papers you have, such as a registration card, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Which of those works for a scrap sale depends on Illinois rules and the car’s record, and we settle that on the call. There is more on that in our no-title guide, and our piece on what sets a junk car’s price explains the number you hear. The quote form gets you that number, and it does not expire.
Markham, Harvey, Homewood and three more on the boundary
Markham is to the north and Harvey to the northeast. East Hazel Crest lies east, Homewood southeast, Flossmoor south and Country Club Hills west. Our trucks come from Orland Hills, and the Cook County page lists the other south suburbs on the same run. Everything else is on the areas we serve page.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Can I push the dead car onto the grass to get it off the street?
No. Hazel Crest does not allow any vehicle, RV, boat or trailer to be parked on grass or any other unpaved surface, so the lawn only swaps one problem for another. Leave it on the driveway or pavement where it is. The driver can load it there, and if it sits on the street, booking the pickup soon is the cleaner fix.
The village put a tow notice on a car parked on our street. How long is there?
Under Chapter 27½ of the village code, an abandoned vehicle is towed only after prior notice, and the owner has 7 days to ask in writing for a hearing before the tow. That window is also enough time to sell. Call us with the notice in hand, and we look for the earliest pickup slot we can give you.
Can you pick up from a business lot, such as Palmer Lake at 175th and Governors?
Yes, as long as the owner or manager of the lot agrees. Palmer Lake Corporate Business Park and the lots along Kedzie Avenue are ordinary pickups for us. Tell the property manager a flatbed is coming, give us the lot and the row, and the driver loads it there. Payment happens at pickup.
