Where I-57 meets I-80
The interchange of I-57 and I-80 sits inside Country Club Hills, signed as exit 345 on I-57 and exit 151 on I-80. One exit north, I-57’s exit 346 comes off at 167th Street, which leads over to Cicero Avenue (IL 50).
That detail matters when you give directions. Cicero runs north through the city but passes under both I-80 and I-57 with no ramps to either, so following Cicero toward an on-ramp gets a driver nowhere. We plan the approach on 167th, 175th or 183rd Street instead, depending on which side of the interstates the car is parked. Pulaski Road, with Hillcrest High School at its corner with 175th, is the other north-south line worth naming.
Sec. 6.2.03 and its 48-hour definitions
Under Sec. 6.2.03(A)(1), a car can be “abandoned” while its owner lives right beside it. Lapsed state plates are enough on their own, once the car is parked anywhere but inside an enclosed garage. So does one that hasn’t moved for 48 consecutive hours on public or private property, and one illegally parked on a street for 48 hours or longer.
“Inoperable” has its own definition in Sec. 6.2.03(A)(2): engine, wheels, tyres or other parts removed or visibly damaged for 48 consecutive hours, or a car that can’t run under its own power. Cars inside a building, registered antiques at least 25 years old and cars at repair or wrecking businesses are left out. Either kind, on a street or on private land, is a public nuisance under Sec. 6.2.03(D).
A tarp won’t fix it, a sale will
Sec. 6.2.03(E) says a tarp doesn’t cure the problem, and neither does keeping the car in an unenclosed structure. The same section allows 30 days after notice for an owner who is selling. A police notice stuck to the car otherwise asks for removal within 48 hours under Sec. 6.2.03(G).
Curb rules: 3 a.m., 2 inches and for-sale signs
No street may be used for parking from 3:00 to 6:00 a.m., and that includes state highways under city jurisdiction (Sec. 6.2.02(A)). There are exceptions. A disabled vehicle may stay up to 24 hours with notice to the police, the police may allow three nights in a row, and a homeowner may park in front of their own house overnight on three days in any 30-day period.
Snow tightens it. Once a residential street has 2 inches of snow on it, parking there is banned (Sec. 6.2.02(E)), and a car left out can be towed with no warning. The city also bars parking a car on a street to show it for sale (Sec. 6.2.02(C)), so the curb is no place to advertise a dead car.
Houses, apartment lots and the forest preserve edge
Nine in ten homes here are single-unit buildings and 74.0% are owner-occupied, so most loads come off a driveway or out of a garage. The 9.8% of homes in buildings with two or more units are fine too: you arrange access to the lot, we bring the flatbed. Our page on what free junk car pickup includes covers the rest. The city’s west side runs up against the Cook County Forest Preserves, with Tinley Park beyond, and our trucks set out from Orland Hills on the far side of Tinley Park.
Hazel Crest, Markham, Flossmoor and on
Hazel Crest borders the city on the east and Markham on the north. Flossmoor and Matteson lie to the south, Oak Forest to the northwest, and Homewood sits one village past Hazel Crest. The Cook County page lists the rest of the south suburbs, and the service area map covers Will County, DuPage and Indiana. When you have the year, make and condition handy, the quote form takes a minute and we ring back within 15 minutes.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

The police put a notice on my car. Is it too late to sell it?
Usually not. The notice the police fix to a car in Country Club Hills asks for removal within 48 hours, but Sec. 6.2.03(E) gives an owner who is selling the car 30 days after notice. Tell us about the notice when you call. We look for the earliest pickup we can book, and you are paid when the car goes on the flatbed.
What if the title is missing?
Tell us which papers you still have, for example the registration, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois rules, not us, decide which of them can back a scrap sale for your particular car, and we check that with you on the phone before a truck is sent. Our guide to selling without a title covers the background.
My car is stuck at a repair shop on Cicero Avenue. Can you collect it there?
Yes. Repair-shop lots are a normal pickup for us. Let the shop know a flatbed is coming, give us the shop's name and cross street, and settle any repair bill with them first. The driver loads from the lot without keys, and payment is made at pickup by the method we agreed on the phone.
