The closed garage is the only exemption

In Olympia Fields the rule for a car that no longer runs is short. Section 14-39(h) of the village code bars parking any abandoned, unlicensed or inoperable vehicle on any property, street or highway. The one way around it is a fully enclosed garage, with the car out of sight of the street and the neighbours.

The definitions reach further than most sellers expect. “Inoperable” covers a car that can’t move under its own power, one in major disassembly or disrepair, and one that is being stripped or dismantled. “Unlicensed” simply means no current state registration, so a car that still starts but carries lapsed plates falls under the same section.

Section 14-39(i) closes the obvious workaround. Any vehicle on public or private property has to stand on a hard-surfaced driveway, so rolling the car onto the lawn behind the house doesn’t fix anything.

Driveways around the country club

The village grew up around Olympia Fields Country Club, founded in 1915, and the housing still reflects it: 91.4% of homes are in one-unit buildings and 88.8% are owner-occupied. For a tow driver that means a paved driveway or an attached garage almost every time, which is the simplest load there is. Flat tyres and missing keys don’t stop it.

The small share of homes in multi-unit buildings works too. Clear the visit with the manager or association, tell us which space the car is in, and the driver handles the rest.

Posted truck signs and the shortest way in

Section 14-8 keeps trucks off posted village roads that are not state or county routes. It allows a truck that is making a pickup or delivery and takes the shortest route. A junk car pickup fits that description, so the flatbed turns in from the nearest main road, loads, and heads straight back out.

Vollmer Road runs along the north side of the village and Lincoln Highway (US 30) along the south, with Kedzie Avenue between them. Metra Electric stops twice in the village, at Olympia Fields station on 203rd Street in the north part and at 211th Street on Lincoln Highway in the south part. Either one works as a landmark when you describe the house.

Night hours and snow on village streets

A car that died at the curb runs into two more sections. Section 14-33 bars parking on village streets from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. every day unless the police allow it. Section 14-32 bars parking that interferes with plowing for 12 hours after a snowfall of 3 inches or more. Same-day pickup is often possible, so a street-parked car may not have to see another night.

From the 60461 driveway to payment

Send the details through the free quote form and we call back within 15 minutes with a number. That number does not expire. On the day, the driver checks the car against your description, you sign over the paperwork, and payment changes hands before the car leaves. Our page on how a junk car sale works walks through it in more detail.

On papers: a signed Illinois title is the easy case. Without one, tell us what you do have, such as registration, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois rules decide which of those can support a scrap sale for your car, and we confirm that on the call before any truck is booked.

Flossmoor to the north, Matteson to the south

Flossmoor lies directly north, and Homewood borders Flossmoor on its far side. Matteson is to the south, Park Forest to the southeast across Lincoln Highway, and Glenwood to the east. Our trucks set out from Orland Hills. For the rest of the south suburbs, see the Cook County pickup page, or the full list of areas we serve.

Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Questions we hear in Olympia Fields

My car still starts, but the registration lapsed. Is that a problem in Olympia Fields?

It can be. Section 14-39(h) groups unlicensed vehicles, meaning any car without current state registration, with abandoned and inoperable ones, and none of them may be parked on property, streets or highways in the village. The one exception is a fully enclosed garage where nobody can see the car from the street or next door. If renewing the plates makes no sense, selling the car settles it.

Can the car wait at the curb overnight until you come?

Not between 2 and 6 a.m. Section 14-33 bans parking on every village street in those hours, any day of the week, unless the police department gives permission. If the car is already out on the street, ask the police about the night, then book the earliest slot we can offer. Flatbeds go out every day of the week, from half past six in the morning until ten at night.

Do you take more than one car from the same house?

Yes. One flatbed visit can clear several cars, which helps when an old second car and a project car have both been sitting in the garage. Give us the year, make and condition of each on the call, and we price them one by one. Each offer stays open, so you can sell one now and keep the other.
