Junk car removal in Posen, from 143rd Street to 147th and Western
How long can a junk car sit at my Posen house before the village steps in?
Posen's code treats a wrecked, junked or non-running car left on private premises for more than 10 days as a nuisance, unless it is in an enclosed building or out of sight. Cash For Junk Cars Junk My Car Inc removes it free, nothing comes off the offer for the tow, and you're paid at pickup.

Off I-57 at exit 350
The quickest way into Posen is 147th Street. Interstate 57’s exit 350, signed for IL-83 at 147th Street and Sibley Boulevard, is listed in Posen, and the Tri-State has a partial interchange on the same road before it crosses the Rock Island line and Kedzie Avenue. For trucks coming from Orland Hills, 147th Street is the obvious entry.
Inside the village, Kedzie Avenue and Western Avenue carry most of the traffic. On the east side, Dixie Highway forms the line with Dixmoor and turns into Western Avenue there. The village code has a section titled “No Parking On Illinois State Route 83” (§ 10-6-9), so a car that quit on 147th Street needs to come off it quickly.
Houses, drives and wide alleys
Posen is a village of houses. By 2020 to 2024 census estimates, 84.6% of its homes are single-family detached, and none are in buildings of five or more units. The typical pickup is a car on a driveway, at the curb or in a garage off an alley.
Alleys here are generous: the code requires a parked car to leave at least 16 feet of roadway clear (§ 10-6-4(18)). The same section limits street parking beyond loading time to private passenger vehicles that seat seven or fewer, which is why our flatbed loads and leaves rather than waiting at the curb.
Ten days and a notice from the chief
Title 10, Chapter 14A is headed “Junked or Nonoperating Vehicles.” A partially dismantled, wrecked, junked, discarded or nonoperating vehicle left on private premises for more than 10 days is a nuisance (§ 10-14A-2). The exceptions are narrow: a car in an enclosed building, one not readily visible from public places or neighbouring property, and licensed non-residential businesses.
When the rule applies, the Chief of Police serves written notice to abate or ask for a hearing. If the owner doesn’t act, the village can remove the nuisance and charge the cost, and that cost can become a lien on the property (§§ 10-14A-4 to 10-14A-6). A lien on the house over a scrap car is a poor trade, so it’s worth getting an offer early.
When the numbered streets become snow routes
After a snowfall of two inches or more, parking stops for 12 hours on the snow routes until they are plowed to the curb (§ 10-17-1). The list covers 143rd through 149th Streets (146th on the north side only), part of Sacramento, and the west side of McKinley, Harrison and California. Cars left there can be towed to the village pound, with tow and storage charged to the owner (§ 10-17-2).
Papers, and towns around Posen
A title signed at pickup keeps things short. If yours is lost, tell us which papers you still have, for example a registration card, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois rules decide which of those can support a scrap sale, and we confirm on the call. Our page on selling a junk car for cash walks through a sale, and the quote form starts one.
Posen borders Blue Island to the north, Harvey to the south, Midlothian to the west and Dixmoor to the east, and Markham touches its line. Robbins is on the same run. The Cook County page and our areas we serve list cover the rest.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Can I park it on the street with a for-sale sign first?
Posen's code says no: § 10-6-4(17) bars parking a vehicle on a street to display it for sale. A dead car at the curb is a problem anyway, and the snow routes add more. Get our offer first; it doesn't expire, so you can weigh it against any private buyer without moving the car.
The car is behind the garage where nobody can see it. Does the 10-day rule apply?
The village exempts a vehicle kept in an enclosed building or one not readily visible from public places or neighbouring property (§ 10-14A-2). Whether yours qualifies is the village's call, not ours. If you're done with it anyway, a free pickup ends the question, and the driver can load from behind the garage if there is room.
The car sat in standing water on our block. Will you still buy it?
Yes. Stormwater flooding is a known problem in parts of Posen, including Harrison Avenue from 140th to 142nd Streets and 143rd Street between Western and Harrison, according to the county hazard plan. Flood-damaged cars are still scrap, and we tow them free like any other.
