Burr Ridge junk car removal on the DuPage and Cook line
How long can a dead car sit in a Burr Ridge driveway?
In Burr Ridge, an inoperable car parked outside on your own residential lot can be towed by the village 21 days after notice, unless it is kept in an enclosed building. Cash For Junk Cars Junk My Car Inc can take it first: the tow is free, the visit is booked on request, and you are paid at pickup.

From Harvester to Burr Ridge
Before it was Burr Ridge, the village was called Harvester, and International Harvester kept its experimental fields here. Now it is a place of 11,192 people (2020 census), and the homes are mostly detached houses: 73.1% of units, with another 9.4% attached. Owners live in 94.0% of occupied homes. So the car we are asked to collect is usually on a private drive or in a garage, not at the curb. About 15.4% of units are in buildings of five or more, and for those the pickup happens in the building’s lot once the manager or association has agreed.
Burr Ridge is split between counties: Downers Grove Township in DuPage and Lyons Township in Cook. We list it with our DuPage County pickups. DuPage is the far side of our map from Orland Hills, where the trucks start out, so a visit here is booked on request and the day is agreed when we call you back.
Coming in off the Stevenson
I-55 does nearly all the work. The Stevenson has two exits that serve the village: County Line Road (exit 276) and IL-83, Kingery Highway (exit 274), which Burr Ridge shares with Willowbrook. The frontage road on the north side of the expressway is an original stretch of Route 66, and Joliet Road is signed Historic US-66 as well. Off the interstate, Plainfield Road, 55th Street and County Line Road reach most streets. When you send the details, say which of those roads is closest and whether the car sits in a garage, on the apron or in a lot.
Three street rules a dead car breaks
- 2 to 6 a.m.: no parking on any village street, every day (§ 35-11-1313).
- 48 hours: no vehicle may be parked or stored on a street, alley or public way longer than that (§ 35-14-108).
- 2 inches of snow in 24 hours: a snow emergency starts automatically and runs 48 hours or until plowing is done, with no street parking at all (§ 12.25).
A car that won’t start can’t obey any of them. If yours is at the curb now, get it on the free quote form before the next overnight window.
Seven days or twenty-one
Chapter 35, Article 14 is the village’s abandoned-vehicle law. Leaving a car or its parts on a highway, or on any property in public view, is unlawful (§ 35-14-102). An inoperable car on the owner’s own property is a nuisance unless it stays inside an enclosed building, with an exception while actual repairs are under way; repair shops and dealers are exempt. After notice, the village can tow in 7 days, or in 21 days when the car is on the owner’s own lot in a residential area (§ 35-14-105).
Twenty-one days sounds roomy until you’re waiting on a repair quote. Get our number the day the notice comes, and weigh it against the estimate. The guide to what sets a junk car offer explains how we arrive at it.
Who’s next door
Indian Head Park borders the village on the east. Willow Springs runs along the south and southeast side, Willowbrook is to the west, and Hinsdale and Western Springs lie north and northeast. Follow Joliet Road east past Indian Head Park and you come to Hodgkins. The full list of towns covers the rest.
Papers for the sale
With a signed Illinois title, there’s nothing more to sort out. If it has gone missing, list what you still have (registration, an insurance card, a bill of sale) and we’ll say on the call which of those Illinois rules accept for a scrap sale in your case. Lost keys don’t matter. You are paid as the car goes on the truck, by Zelle, Cash App, cash or another digital payment, and nothing is taken off the offer for the tow.
Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Part of Burr Ridge is in Cook County. Does that change the pickup?
No. The village takes in Downers Grove Township on the DuPage side and Lyons Township on the Cook side, and one village code covers both. We file Burr Ridge with our DuPage work, which means the visit is booked on request and the day is settled on the phone. The offer, the free tow and payment at pickup don't change with the township.
My work van died and it's parked at the house. Is that allowed?
Burr Ridge only lets a commercial vehicle stay overnight in a residential district if it is inside a fully enclosed building. A dead van on the drive can break that rule and the inoperable-vehicle rule at once. We buy non-running vans and pickup trucks as readily as cars, and one visit can clear more than one vehicle from the same address.
Can I ask the village for a hearing instead of selling?
You can. Section 35-14-105 lets the owner request a pre-tow hearing within 7 days of the notice. A hearing settles the dispute; it doesn't fix the engine. If the car is never going to run again, ask us for a number first. Our offers don't expire, so the hearing and the decision can come in whatever order suits you.
