The word in the zoning book is “junker”

Bridgeview’s zoning ordinance has its own name for the car in your driveway that hasn’t started since spring. Section 13.1 defines a junker as a motor vehicle damaged badly enough that it can’t run under its own power and needs major repairs, or one that doesn’t comply with state or village law. The same section sets the outdoor storage rule: no unlicensed vehicle may be kept outside in any zoning class unless it is classed as an antique.

That covers more cars than people expect. A sedan with a blown transmission is a junker. A car that still runs but sits outside with expired plates can run into the same section, because unlicensed vehicles can’t be stored outdoors. Either way, a free pickup clears it without you paying for a tow.

A rectangle with a rail line on top

The village is roughly rectangular. Roberts Road runs along the west side and Harlem Avenue (IL-43) along the east. The south line is 103rd Street from 76th Avenue to Harlem, and the north line staggers between 6700 and 6900 South on either side of the railroad tracks.

Inside that box, 95th Street (US-12 and US-20) has interchanges with both the Tri-State and Harlem, which makes it the natural way in from Orland Hills. Archer Road (IL-171) also crosses the village, and 79th, 87th and 99th Streets carry traffic east and west. SeatGeek Stadium is the easiest landmark in town if the car is anywhere near it.

Mobile home parks and apartment buildings

Mobile homes are a real share of the housing here: 13.6% of Bridgeview’s units, by 2020 to 2024 census estimates. Another 28.6% are in buildings with five or more units. Both mean shared lots and narrow lanes. Let the park office or building manager know a flatbed is coming, and give us the lot number or building entrance. A car without keys is fine; the driver brings what is needed to load it.

Two a.m., one inch, and festival weekends

Street parking has firm limits here. No parking on village streets from 2 to 6 a.m. without prior approval, which you get by calling the police before 2 a.m. Once snow reaches an inch, the streets close to parking. Big weekends at the stadium can add more: during the June 2026 Summer Smash festival, the village required a sticker to enter or park in residential areas north of 79th Street. If a pickup falls on an event weekend, tell us the block and we plan the route.

Papers before the truck rolls

If you hold the title, you sign it over at pickup. If not, tell us what you do have, for example a bill of sale, the registration or an insurance card. Illinois rules decide which of those can support a scrap sale, and we confirm that for your car on the call. Then ask for your offer here and we call back within 15 minutes.

Bordering towns

Bridgeview touches eight communities: Bedford Park, Nottingham Park, Burbank, Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Palos Hills, Hickory Hills and Justice. Summit is a short run beyond. See how the Cook County suburbs fit together, or check the complete service list.

Year, make and model are enough to start an offer.

Questions we hear in Bridgeview

The car can't be moved off the street before 2 a.m. What should I do?

The village FAQ says to call Bridgeview Police before 2 a.m. to ask for approval to leave a car on the street overnight. Do that first, then send us the details. Our trucks start at 6:30 a.m., so a morning pickup is often possible, and the tow costs you nothing.

My car runs, but its plates expired. Is it a junker?

Under Bridgeview's zoning definition, a junker is either too damaged to run or a vehicle that doesn't comply with state or village law, and the same section bars keeping an unlicensed vehicle as outdoor storage unless it's an antique. If you have no plans to plate it again, we buy running and non-running cars alike, as long as they're headed for scrap.

There are three dead cars at my place. Is that three trips?

No. One visit can take several cars, and each one is towed free. List them all on the form with year, make and condition, and we price each car separately so you can sell all of them or just the ones you choose.
